The University of Missouri Swim and Dive team completed the first day of the Mizzou Invite at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia. The event, which spans three days, saw Missouri competing alongside Texas Christian University.
After 14 out of 42 events, Missouri’s women’s team is currently in second place with 316.5 points, trailing TCU’s 353.5 points. The men’s team holds a significant lead with 435 points compared to TCU’s 272.5.
Missouri secured first place in seven events on the opening day, including both the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle relays. The women’s A-team posted a time of 1:29.17, ranking fifth nationally, while the B-team recorded a time of 1:30.52, placing them eleventh in national rankings.
In individual performances, Missouri athletes earned four victories and reached the podium nine times. Taylor William won gold in the women’s 100 fly with a season-best time of 52.36 seconds. Jane Smith claimed victory in the women’s 500 free by finishing just shy of her personal best. Francesca Smith led the women’s 50 free with a time of 22.57 seconds after improving her career-best twice during the day.
On the men’s side, Will Goodwin took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.17—just .12 seconds off his career best as a graduate student. In preliminaries for diving, Collier Dyer achieved a one-meter score of 373.65 to set a new personal record and rise to seventh on Missouri’s all-time list; he finished third overall for the day.
Other notable results included Missouri finishing first and third in the women’s 200 free relay, Mikolaj Malec placing second in the men’s 500 free (4:23.40), and Grant Bochenski earning second place in the men’s 50 free (19.69). Additionally, Mizzou swept all podium positions in the women’s 50 free event with Francesca Smith (22.50), Zara Zallen (22.60), and Sierra Smith (22.67).
Competition will continue tomorrow morning with preliminaries starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m., both held at Mizzou Aquatic Center.
