Missouri Tigers women’s soccer team secured a 2-0 victory against Missouri State on Sunday at Betty & Bobby Allison Stadium in Springfield. The match remained scoreless for the first 80 minutes before Olivia Chianelli scored her first goal of the season after recovering the ball at the 18-yard box. Less than three minutes later, Ava Vetter added another goal, her second this season, with an assist from McKenna Moran.

Goalkeeper Kate Phillips recorded her second shutout of the year and fourth in her career, making two saves out of seven shots faced. Head coach Stefanie Golan commented on the performance: “Definitely pleased that we ended with two goals and a shutout. I didn’t think it was as pretty a game as we obviously would have liked it to be, but that’s what you need on Sundays a lot of the time. Sundays, for everybody, you’re coming off a game that you’ve played earlier in the week, and it’s tough to fight through, but that’s what great teams can do, and I’m really proud of our women for doing just that.”

The Tigers started strong offensively with three shots on target in the opening 11 minutes by Bella Carrillo, Jessica Larson, and Emily Derucki. Despite these early efforts being saved by Missouri State’s goalkeeper, Missouri maintained pressure throughout the first half and outshot their opponents 7-3 before halftime.

Hailey Chambliss had another scoring opportunity in the 30th minute but was also denied. In total, Missouri registered 16 shots—10 on target—and six corner kicks over the course of the match. Missouri State managed seven attempts with only two on target.

After going up by two goals late in the match, Missouri continued pressing with additional attempts from Carrillo and Landis Canada in the closing minutes.

Missouri will next play Illinois at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium on Thursday, September 4 at 5 p.m., with live streaming available via SEC Network+.
