The Missouri State High School Activities Association presented the Mal Mayse Distinguished Service Award to the University of Missouri School of Music during the 74th State Music Festival, according to an April 30 announcement. Interim Director Brian Silvey accepted the award on behalf of the School of Music.
The award recognizes individuals and organizations whose long-term dedication has significantly influenced interscholastic activities throughout Missouri. The University of Missouri School of Music has hosted the State Music Festival for many years, providing facilities that allow thousands of students from across Missouri to perform in a collegiate environment.
In addition to hosting duties, the school helps coordinate complex scheduling for thousands of student entries in both vocal and instrumental categories. Students from MU also volunteer at the festival, supporting event operations and helping ensure a smooth experience for all participants, directors, and adjudicators.
According to MSHSAA, its partnership with the MU School of Music is crucial in delivering a high-quality State Music Festival each year and offering meaningful performance opportunities for students statewide.
The Mal Mayse Distinguished Service Award is named after longtime MSHSAA attorney Mal Mayse. It honors those whose careers demonstrate integrity, service, and commitment to member schools.
