U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) announced on Mar. 17 that he will introduce a substitute amendment to the SAVE America Act, aiming to include priorities supported by former President Donald Trump. The announcement comes as the Senate prepares to vote on the legislation this week.
The proposed amendment seeks to address election integrity, participation in women’s sports, and medical procedures for minors. These issues have been central topics in recent national debates and are expected to draw significant attention during Senate discussions.
Schmitt said, “The American people want to see a return to common sense, and this week the Senate will vote on the SAVE America Act to deliver on this mandate. I’ve worked closely with President Trump and the White House to introduce a substitute amendment that will save our elections, save women’s sports, and save our children from gender mutilation surgeries. It’s time to get this done.”
According to Schmitt’s office, the amendment would require all voters to show identification, mandate proof of citizenship for voting eligibility, limit mail-in balloting except for military personnel, illness, travel or disability reasons, restrict men from participating in women’s sports, and prohibit certain medical procedures for transgender minors.
Schmitt serves as a U.S. Senator from Missouri and operates district offices across several cities including Columbia, Springfield, Kansas City and Cape Girardeau as well as an office in Washington D.C., according to the official website. He also serves on key Senate committees such as Armed Services and Commerce, Science and Transportation according to the official website.
As legislative discussions continue in Washington D.C., observers are watching how these proposed changes may influence future policy debates at both state and federal levels.
