Do you know anyone interested in becoming a sworn law enforcement officer; however, they are struggling to find the money and/or time to pay the academy tuition and attend full-time?
If so, there are several opportunities available. First, we have our Deputy Sheriff Trainee program available. If someone applies for a Deputy Sheriff Trainee position, completes the process, and is hired, they are brought on as a full-time benefited employee (current rate of $18.36 hr.) AND we pay for the academy tuition. Once the Deputy Sheriff Trainee successfully completes the basic law enforcement academy, they are moved into a Deputy Sheriff position (current starting rate of pay is $24.09 hr. plus $1.00 hr. shift differential when applicable). A second option is the recently announced Missouri Blue Scholarship. This scholarship makes $5,000 available for each selected non-sponsored law enforcement academy recruit to help cover the cost of attending a Missouri basic training academy. Missouri Blue Scholarships are now available and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
