The Office of Sustainability has issued a reminder to residents regarding the proper disposal of pool water. The agency emphasized that draining pool water into storm drains is both illegal and harmful to the environment.
“Did you know that draining your pool water into a storm drain is harmful to the environment? It’s not only illegal, but it can also harm aquatic life in our local streams,” stated the office in its announcement.
Residents are encouraged to follow environmentally friendly practices when disposing of pool water. The office advises against using storm drains for this purpose and urges everyone to take steps to protect waterways and wildlife.
“Let’s do our part to protect our waterways and wildlife by disposing of pool water responsibly,” the statement continued.
This reminder comes as part of broader efforts by the City of Columbia to promote sustainable practices among its residents. The city continues to provide resources and information on various environmental issues through its Office of Sustainability.
