Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) has issued a reminder to community members to get vaccinated during the upcoming flu season. The flu, a contagious respiratory illness, can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death.

PHHS emphasizes that individuals who are sick should stay home, as the flu can be spread up to seven days after symptoms appear. The most effective way to remain healthy during flu season is by receiving the annual flu vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months or older receive the flu vaccine. The vaccine helps reduce the risk of contracting the illness and spreading it to others.

Flu vaccines are available at PHHS for $25 for those paying out of pocket. Individuals planning to get vaccinated at PHHS should bring their insurance card and be prepared to fill out a consent form. Those with severe egg allergies are advised to contact their medical provider beforehand.
