The Boone County Commission is set to initiate the development of a senior citizen tax relief program following the approval of Proposition 1 by voters. The Commission aims to create a policy that supports seniors in need while considering the implications for taxing entities like schools throughout the county.

Throughout the election period, the Commission emphasized its commitment to a program that prioritizes those seniors who require assistance. The process will involve public participation, allowing community members to provide feedback before any policy is finalized.

Details regarding upcoming public hearings will be made available in the next few weeks as part of this inclusive approach.

"With voter approval of Proposition 1, the Boone County Commission will soon begin the public process of drafting a policy and addressing key elements of the senior tax relief program," reads an official statement from April 3, 2024. "As stated throughout the election cycle, the Commission intends to implement a program that benefits the seniors who may need it most while also being mindful of the impact on taxing jurisdictions such as schools across the County."

"The adoption of said policy will be the result of a public process that includes public input," adds another part of their communication.
