Senator Eric Schmitt recently shared a series of statements on social media expressing concerns about the use of taxpayer funds for certain public institutions and advocating for fiscal responsibility in government spending. The tweets, posted on July 14, 2025, addressed issues related to public broadcasting organizations and legislative efforts to manage federal expenditures.

In one post, Senator Schmitt criticized the allocation of taxpayer money to specific institutions. He stated, "It’s indefensible to force hardworking Americans to bankroll institutions that openly despise their values. We must cut off the taxpayer spigot to these partisan platforms once and for all." (July 14, 2025).

Another message focused on leadership at NPR and programming at PBS. Senator Schmitt wrote, "NPR CEO Katherine Maher made her bias clear with ridiculous social media posts and by repeatedly insulting President Trump. PBS has aired children's programming that promotes the most radical forms of transgender propaganda." (July 14, 2025).

In a third statement, Senator Schmitt discussed legislative approaches to national spending. He said, "No single bill will unilaterally fix our national or put an end to Washington's spending addiction. But Trump’s rescissions package is a necessary first step to prove to America that we are serious about safeguarding taxpayer dollars and putting Americans first." (July 14, 2025).

Katherine Maher became CEO of NPR in April 2024 after previously serving as CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation.
