U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) appeared on Fox Business' Varney & Company to discuss recent developments concerning Iran and upcoming legislative hearings. The senator addressed President Trump's military actions against Iran's nuclear facilities, as well as a Judiciary Committee hearing he will lead on discriminatory DEI practices.
Regarding the situation with Iran, Senator Schmitt stated: “Well, they’re going to have to give up on their dreams of enrichment. They have no ability to do it. Their program was obliterated by those bunker busters on B-2s coming from Missouri and President Trump’s decision to do it." He emphasized that Iran's capacity for producing highly enriched uranium, intended for nuclear weapons, has been effectively dismantled. "We can’t let that happen again," he added.
Senator Schmitt further commented on the impact of the strikes: “Those scientists he’s talking about are all dead. The generals are all dead. They have no program to speak of thanks to President Trump." He highlighted that this action was in the core national interests of the United States and suggested that there is now an opportunity for peace discussions.
In discussing potential future diplomatic efforts, Schmitt remarked: “I think that President Trump understood the risk, how close they were [to a nuclear weapon], and took action.” He noted that conditions may now be favorable for advancing peace agreements such as the Abraham Accords.
On domestic matters, Senator Schmitt announced his role in leading a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing focused on DEI policies. He criticized these initiatives as being contrary to civil rights protections: “Look, the Civil Rights Act of the 1960s were meant to protect people from racial discrimination, and that’s exactly what DEI is." The hearing aims to examine these practices within universities and corporate America.
The senator mentioned that the new head of civil rights at the Justice Department will attend the hearing: "She’s very focused on this and rooting it out — in corporate America and our universities – this racially discriminatory activity called DEI."
