The University of Missouri women's soccer team opened its 2025 season with a 1-1 draw against South Dakota State on Thursday night at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Missouri took the lead late in the first half when Ava Vetter scored her first career goal in the 41st minute. The play began with a corner kick from Landis Canada, which was collected by Emily Derucki before Vetter finished from close range on the right side.
Goalkeeper Kate Phillips, a junior, recorded four saves during the match. Her first save came in the tenth minute after stopping a header following a South Dakota State corner kick. Missouri outshot their opponent 3-2 in the opening half and kept South Dakota State scoreless through halftime.
In the second half, Phillips continued to make key stops, including a diving save in the 53rd minute and another stop in the 70th minute on a shot taken from just outside the penalty box.
South Dakota State equalized with twelve minutes left in regulation. The match ended tied at one goal apiece.
Missouri will play its next game at home against Youngstown State on Wednesday, August 20, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
