Missouri Tigers women's soccer lost 2-0 to Illinois on Thursday at Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia. The match marked the first of a four-game homestand for Missouri.
Illinois, now with a 5-0-0 record, scored two quick goals that decided the outcome. Despite the loss, Missouri led in shots (11-6) and shots on goal (8-4).
Missouri's first significant chance came after a throw-in allowed Emily Derucki to attempt a shot that went just right of the net. In the 21st minute, Keegan Good took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that was saved by Illinois' goalkeeper. Kate Phillips made her second save for Missouri in the 41st minute, keeping the score even at halftime.
Illinois broke through early in the second half with a goal in the 46th minute. Missouri responded with back-to-back shots from Bella Carrillo and Good in the 56th minute, but both were stopped by Illinois' keeper. Illinois added another goal from outside the box in the 59th minute.
Derucki finished with four shots, two on target, but could not find a way past Illinois' defense.
Missouri will conclude its non-conference schedule Sunday at home against Kansas City at 7 p.m., with coverage available via SEC Network+.
