On September 6, 2025, Alford posted about a fatal incident at Fort Leonard Wood: "Leslie and I are devastated by the news of the brave soldier who died at Fort Leonard Wood earlier today. We are praying for their friends, family, and loved ones. Our nation sends its best to FLW and we must ensure it maintains the highest safety standards."

Alford has represented Missouri’s 4th District since replacing Vicky Hartzler in 2023. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. Alford earned his BA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
