Mizzou soccer secured a 1-0 victory over Kansas City on Sunday night at Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia, with an early goal from junior Mia Yang. The win brings the Tigers’ record to 3-3-1 for the season.

The decisive moment came in the third minute when Emily Derucki delivered a corner kick to the center of the penalty box, where Yang converted it into a goal. Yang led Missouri with three shots on target during the match.

Goalkeeper Kate Phillips made a key save in the 24th minute, which was Kansas City's only shot on goal for the evening. Phillips earned her third shutout of the season and fifth overall in her career.

Missouri continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half, opening with back-to-back shots on goal from Keegan Good and Brianna Buels. In the 84th minute, consecutive attempts by Yang and Morgan Meador increased Missouri’s second-half shot total to 12. Yang, Good, and Buels each recorded four shots. This is the highest number of shots Missouri has taken in a half since matching that figure against SEMO on September 9, 2024.

The Tigers also dominated set pieces, finishing with 12 corner kicks while holding Kansas City to none. This ties for their second largest corner kick differential since recording a 16-4 margin against Mississippi State on September 25, 2016.

Missouri will begin Southeastern Conference play on Friday at home against Texas at Walton Stadium. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
