Senator Eric Schmitt, representing Missouri in the U.S. Senate, published a series of posts on X reflecting on the loss of an individual named Charlie and commemorating the anniversary of September 11.

On September 10, 2025, Schmitt wrote: "Charlie was a patriot in the fullest sense of the word. A loving husband and father. An incredible friend to me and so many others.

He was a great American. A legend.

What else is there to say? Words fail.

Pray for Charlie. Pray for his family. Pray for our country."

The following day, he added another tribute: "Charlie was a friend, a patriot, a father, and a devoted Christian.

He embodied the essential American virtue of vigorous, free, and open debate.

We will carry his legacy with us forever." (September 11, 2025).

Also on September 11th, Schmitt marked the anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., stating: "24 yrs ago America endured the unthinkable.

We will Never Forget the 2977 innocent lives lost or the brave first responders who ran toward danger to help fellow Americans.

America is the greatest country on earth & our strength in the face of evil ensures it remains that way."

Senator Schmitt’s remarks come as Americans observe over two decades since September 11th attacks claimed nearly three thousand lives and prompted significant changes in national security policy. Each year on this date, memorials are held across the United States to honor victims and first responders who died during or as a result of those events.

Senator Eric Schmitt has served as Missouri’s junior senator since January 2023 after previously holding statewide office as Attorney General.
