Missouri men’s golf finishes eighth at Old Waverly Collegiate Championship

The University of Missouri men's golf team moved up two places on the final day of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, finishing in eighth place at the event hosted by Mississippi State.

Junior Virgilio Paz and sophomore Veikka Viskari both finished with a three-round total of +5, tying for the top spot among their teammates. Paz closed out his tournament with a one-over 73, making three birdies in the last round to climb 13 positions on the leaderboard and secure 29th place overall (74-74-73). Viskari also made three birdies during his final round, matching Paz's position in the standings (74-69-78). Over the course of 54 holes, Viskari recorded 14 birdies, which tied for fourth-most among all players.

Freshman Trent Mierl posted an even-par 72 on the final day—the best score for Missouri in that round—registering four birdies and improving by 19 spots on the leaderboard. Sophomore Brock Snyder (72-76-79), Trevor Mierl (72-81-76), and Mattias Varjun (74-74-83) completed scoring for Missouri.

Missouri overtook Southern Miss and Louisiana Monroe to finish eighth out of thirteen teams. The tournament was won by No. 3 Ole Miss, who set a new record with a score of -39, finishing well ahead of No. 15 Alabama in second place.

The Tigers will next compete in the SEC Championship beginning Wednesday, April 23.
