No. 16 Oklahoma secured a doubleheader sweep over the University of Missouri baseball team on Friday at Taylor Stadium, winning the first game 17-7 and taking the second contest 12-1 to clinch their Southeastern Conference series.
The Sooners improved to 29-10 overall and 10-8 in SEC play. Oklahoma’s Jaxon Willits and Easton Carmichael led the offense, combining for 12 hits, 10 runs scored, and 14 RBIs across both games. In the opener, Oklahoma tallied a season-high 18 hits against Missouri pitching. Four-run rallies in both the third and fourth innings gave OU a lead that Missouri did not overcome.
Easton Carmichael hit two home runs in the first game—a two-run homer in the third inning and a three-run shot as part of a six-run eighth—finishing with six RBIs. Willits contributed three hits, four runs scored, and three RBIs. Jason Walk added a two-run home run following Carmichael’s blast in the third.
Oklahoma starter Kyson Witherspoon struck out ten batters over six innings, allowing his first hit when Kaden Peer homered for Missouri in the fourth inning. “Carmichael's second home run highlighted the eighth, with Sam Christiansen and Drew Dickerson adding RBI-doubles in the rally for OU.”
Peer finished with three hits and three RBIs for Missouri (13-26, 0-18 SEC), while Brock Daniels had a two-run homer as part of his two-hit performance.
In game two, Oklahoma again took an early lead with four runs in the first inning followed by another four runs in the second. Carmichael hit his third home run of the day—a three-run shot—to spark scoring early. Kyle Branch added a solo homer later in the first inning; Dickinson homered to start the second before Christiansen hit a three-run home run.
Malachi Witherspoon pitched five innings for Oklahoma, striking out eight while allowing just one run on three hits. Missouri’s only run came from Pierre Seals’ RBI single after Jackson Lovich singled and scored earlier in the inning.
Xavier Lovett provided relief pitching for Missouri by holding Oklahoma to two runs over more than four innings out of the bullpen.
Missouri now has an all-time record of 110-157-1 against Oklahoma after these losses. Jackson Lovich recorded his team-leading 45th hit and 29th run this season. Seals saw his seven-game hitting streak end during game one but collected his 16th RBI of the year during game two, becoming one of six Tigers to reach that mark this season. Lovett’s appearance marked his longest outing in SEC play so far this year.
