Missouri Tigers women's tennis falls to Oklahoma; prepares for Arkansas matchup

The University of Missouri women's tennis team was defeated by No. 14 Oklahoma, 4-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday, March 7. With this result, Missouri's record moves to 10-4 overall and 1-3 in Southeastern Conference play, while Oklahoma improves to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC.

In doubles competition, Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar lost their match on court three by a score of 6-1. Inah Canete and Andrea Artimedi also fell on court two with the same score. The match featuring Mary Brumfield and Korina Roso on court one went unfinished, with Missouri trailing 3-4.

During singles play, four of the six Missouri competitors faced nationally ranked opponents. Inah Canete played against No. 17 Julia Garcia Ruiz, dropping the first set 3-6 and trailing in the second before their match was left unfinished. Korina Roso won her opening set against No. 98 Gloriana Nahum but was behind in the second when play stopped.

Head coach Bianca Turati commented on the team's performance: "Oklahoma deserves a lot of credit today. They are a very good team and played solid tennis in every spot of their lineup. We'll keep working with our heads up. There's a big match coming up on Sunday."

Missouri will next compete against Arkansas in Fayetteville at Billingsley Tennis Center on Sunday, March 9.
