Mizzou Cross Country has released its 2020 competition schedule, which includes two home meets in Columbia. The team will participate in three regular season meets before entering postseason competition at the SEC Cross Country Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Head coach Marc Burns commented on the upcoming season: "We are thankful to be back training and competing in 2020," said Mizzou Cross Country head coach Marc Burns. "It is certainly a different world we are navigating as a team, but we are proud of how our student athletes are handling it. Thanks to Commissioner Sankey, Jim Sterk and their administrative teams for having the resolve to push ahead and provide these great opportunities for our student athletes."
The Tigers begin their season with the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 19. In last year’s event, the women’s team finished fourth while the men placed fifth.
Following that meet, Mizzou will host two events at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. The Gans Creek Classic is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, featuring teams such as Arkansas (women), Iowa State, Kansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. The regular season concludes with the Missouri XC Invitational on Friday, October 16. Information regarding spectators for these home events will be announced later.
After completing their regular season meets, Mizzou will compete at the SEC Championships on Friday, October 30. Last year at this event, the women’s team achieved a third-place finish—marking their fourth consecutive top-five result—while the men’s team finished seventh.
