The University of Missouri swimming and diving teams began their 2025 season with a dual meet against nationally ranked Louisville at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Friday. The Louisville women’s team, ranked eighth in the nation, defeated Missouri 204-95, while the No. 10 Louisville men’s team secured a 193-107 win over the Tigers.
Missouri head coach Andrew Grevers commented on his team's performance: "We definitely had some great moments," he said. "Grant Bochenski's 100 back was good, and Zoe Schneider winning the 1000 (free) was a great win for her. Jan Zubik's 200 fly was big, as was Emily Roden's performance in the 200 fly…she's battled some big-time injuries and was sidelined for a while, so for her to come back today and win that event after not swimming that race all season long was a huge statement. I'm very proud of the Tigers and their resilience after some very challenging training over the last month and a half, and today certainly sets us up on a great trajectory for the end of the season."
In diving events, Missouri athletes claimed first place in both women's and men's 3-meter springboard competitions. Gabriela San Juan Carmona won with a score of 301.28 for the women, while Collier Dyer took first place for the men with a score of 375.60. Dyer also finished first in platform diving with a score of 383.03. Freshman Deacon Colbert achieved his first career podium finish by taking second place in platform diving with a score of 335.63.
Emily Roden earned her first gold finish of the season in the women's 200 butterfly event with a time of 1:57.95. Jan Zubik secured victory in the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 1:42.65, resulting in Missouri sweeping both titles in that event.
Senior Grant Bochenski continued his undefeated streak at home this season by winning the men's 100 backstroke with a time of 45.86 seconds. He also contributed to Missouri’s victory in the men's 200 freestyle relay alongside Luke Nebrich, Francois Malherbe, and Darden Tate; they finished with a time of 1:18.40.
Zoe Schneider won first place in the women's 1000 freestyle by completing it in nine minutes and fifty seconds (9:50.49). Senior Jibran Himsi also captured gold for Missouri in the men’s version of that race, finishing at nine minutes fourteen seconds (9:14.94).
After this meet, Missouri will take two weeks off before hosting Missouri State and McKendree at home from January 17-18 at Mizzou Aquatic Center where graduating seniors will be recognized during a pre-meet ceremony.
