Today, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) criticized Senate Democrats for voting against a continuing resolution aimed at funding the government and avoiding a shutdown. In a statement released from Washington, Schmitt said, “Democrats just rejected a funding bill to keep the government open and instead chose to yield to their base of radical leftists and shut the government down. This is political theater at the expense of hardworking American families we swore an oath to represent. The American people deserve a government that puts their interests first, not one that shuts the government down to score petty partisan points. The ball remains in their court. Republicans will continue to fight for a responsible, commonsense path forward, while Democrats continue to grandstand.”
The vote comes as Congress faces another deadline to pass legislation in order to keep federal agencies funded and operating.
