Rep. Mark Alford, who represents Missouri’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on October 2, 2025, to criticize Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer over a government shutdown. In a series of posts, Alford attributed responsibility for the shutdown to Schumer and expressed concern for Missouri families.

In his first post at 13:07 UTC, Alford wrote, "Where does the buck stop? The buck stops with Chuck. This Schumer Shutdown is reckless. Republicans voted for a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open and protect Missouri families."

Later that morning at 13:54 UTC, he continued his criticism by posting, "Day 2 of the Schumer Shutdown. How long before Democrats stop playing political games and start putting YOU first?"

At 14:45 UTC, Alford reiterated his stance with another statement: "The #SchumerShutdown is here. Schumer’s playing politics to save his seat instead of serving YOU. @HouseGOP passed a CLEAN bill to keep America open. Schumer shut it down."

Alford has represented Missouri's 4th district since 2023 after succeeding Vicky Hartzler in Congress. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. Alford graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in 1988.

The ongoing debate about government funding often leads to partisan disputes over continuing resolutions or appropriations bills necessary to keep federal operations running.
