Rep. Mark Alford, U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 4th district since 2023, posted a series of statements on his social media account in early October 2025 regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on American families.
On October 3, 2025, Alford wrote: "Imagine being a mom told your child’s nutrition benefits are gone—all because Democrats won’t give up their $1.5 trillion radical wishlist…and giving Medicaid to illegal aliens. #SchumerShutdown".
Continuing his criticism of Democratic lawmakers the following day, Alford posted: "Day 4 of the #SchumerShutdown.
Families are hurting, workers are unpaid, and our economy is bleeding BILLIONS.
Democrats need to end their political games and put the American people FIRST." (October 4, 2025).
Later that same morning, he reiterated concerns about the potential effects of the shutdown on federal nutrition programs: " 7 MILLION women & children are at risk of losing nutrition benefits because of Democrats’ political games. Families deserve better.
#SchumerShutdown" (October 4, 2025).
The posts refer to an ongoing dispute in Congress over funding measures that have resulted in a partial government shutdown, which has affected various public services and federal benefit programs.
Mark Alford succeeded Vicky Hartzler as representative for Missouri's 4th district in January 2023 after winning election in November 2022. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. Alford graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.
