Rep. Mark Alford, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 4th district since 2023, used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and to mark Columbus Day.

On October 12, 2025, Alford posted about the federal government shutdown, stating, "It’s Day 12 of the Schumer Shutdown, and hardworking Americans are STILL being punished for the Left’s political games."

The following day, on October 13, 2025, he acknowledged the national holiday with a message about its historical significance: "Today we celebrate COLUMBUS Day: the bold voyage that changed history and helped shape the greatest nation on Earth. Under President Trump, we honor our heritage again rather than apologize for it."

Later that same day, Alford reiterated his criticism of the ongoing shutdown, posting: "Can you believe it’s Day 13 of the Schumer Shutdown? Democrats don’t care about your paycheck, your family, or your future. Just their politics. Enough is enough."

Alford succeeded Vicky Hartzler in Missouri’s 4th congressional district in 2023 and has been an active voice on issues affecting his constituents. Born in Baytown, Texas in 1963, Alford is currently 59 years old and resides in Lake Winnebago. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
