The University of Missouri men's golf team secured a third-place finish at the Moraine Intercollegiate in Ohio, competing among 14 schools. The Tigers posted a team score of 836, finishing 16 strokes under par over three rounds. Xavier claimed the top spot with a score of 832, while Illinois, ranked eighth nationally, finished second at 835.
Mizzou's total score marks the 11th-best 54-hole performance in school history and is their lowest since recording an 830 at the National Invitational Tournament during the previous season.
"Overall, a good weekend for our guys," said Mizzou head coach Glen Millican. "Two Tigers in the top 10 along with Bradley inside the top 15 put us in contention and gave us a chance."
Junior Veikka Viskari from Espoo, Finland, and sophomore Trent Mierl led Missouri by tying for seventh place at six-under-par. Viskari achieved a career-best round of 62 and collected his second top-10 finish this season. He made 15 birdies over the course of the tournament and has either led or tied for the team lead in all four tournaments this year.
Mierl scored under par in all three rounds—his second time doing so—and notched his third consecutive round below par. He totaled 12 birdies against six bogeys during play.
"It was great to have a strong finish this week," said Mierl. "I stayed really patient and stuck to my process the whole tournament, which helped a ton. It was great to see the team play well and be in contention the whole tournament. Looking forward to carrying the momentum for the next event at The Clerico in Tulsa. MIZ!"
Junior Bradley Mulder finished in 13th place with his best result as a Tiger, posting a three-round total of four-under-par (66-69-74) and making 13 birdies.
Senior Virgilio Paz placed 38th at two-over-par (72-70-73), while freshman Reese Roberts finished tied for 55th at seven-over-par (76-71-73).
The Tigers will conclude their fall campaign at The Clerico tournament beginning October 27.
