Rep. Mark Alford, U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 4th district since 2023, posted a series of tweets over the weekend addressing the ongoing federal government shutdown and sharing personal reflections on faith.

On October 18, 2025, Alford highlighted the effects of the shutdown in a tweet: "Schumer Shutdown Day 18: Federal workers unpaid. Military families worried. Small businesses hurting.

@HouseGOP voted to reopen the government and pay our troops — Senate Democrats blocked it 11 times.

It’s time for Chuck to stop the games and do his job." He attributed responsibility for the impasse to Senate Democrats and specifically called on Senator Chuck Schumer to act.

Earlier that day, Alford also posted a link without additional commentary: https://t.co/F07Wt4Bdxj (October 18, 2025).

The following morning, he turned to social media with a message about perseverance and faith: "God hears the cries of those who don’t give up. When we continue to bring our burdens to Him, He strengthens our hearts and renews our spirit.

As we enter a new week, may we remember: prayer isn’t about perfect words, but a faithful heart that refuses to grow weary." (October 19, 2025).

Mark Alford has represented Missouri's 4th District in Congress since succeeding Vicky Hartzler in 2023. Born in Baytown, Texas in 1963, Alford is currently 59 years old and resides in Lake Winnebago. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
