Senator Eric Schmitt, U.S. Senator for Missouri, made a series of posts on October 31, 2025, criticizing Judge James Boasberg and raising concerns about judicial impartiality in cases involving former President Donald Trump.

In one post, Schmitt wrote: "Like several rogue judges, Boasberg has repeatedly ruled against Trump. But this summer, a memo revealed that Boasberg (and others) harbored an open bias—and fear—of the Trump Administration. We cannot have openly biased judges. Justice must be blind." (October 31, 2025)

Schmitt continued his criticism by referencing appellate court decisions: "Thankfully, Boasberg has been repeatedly overturned. In the 'Turn the Planes Around' case, the Supreme Court vacated his order—and the D.C. Circuit later reversed his sanctions on Trump’s lawyers." (October 31, 2025)

He also claimed that federal authorities are investigating Judge Boasberg: "These things led the DOJ to pursue a misconduct complaint against Judge Boasberg. That process is currently ongoing. Judges aren't politicians in robes—they're judges." (October 31, 2025)

James E. Boasberg is Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and was appointed to the bench in 2011 by President Barack Obama.

Complaints regarding judicial conduct are reviewed through formal procedures by judicial councils or relevant oversight bodies within the federal judiciary.

Decisions from district court judges can be appealed to higher courts such as circuit courts and ultimately to the U.S. Supreme Court if warranted.
