Rep. Mark Alford, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 4th district since 2023, used his social media platform this week to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its perceived impacts. In a series of posts, Alford attributed responsibility for the shutdown to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and criticized Democratic priorities.
On November 4, 2025, Alford wrote: "Your daily reminder that the Left is STILL prioritizing illegal immigrants over your wellbeing and all of America’s. #SchumerShutdown".
The following day, he posted support for another user's comments regarding the shutdown's effect on small businesses: "Spot on @SBA_Kelly. The Schumer Shutdown is hurting our small businesses and working families. End these reckless games and put America first again."
Later that morning, Alford added: "The longest shutdown in U.S. history belongs to Chuck Schumer. 36 days of damage to our communities. Time to reopen America."
Alford has served as a member of Congress since replacing Vicky Hartzler in 2023. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.
The current remarks reflect ongoing partisan debate about government funding impasses, which have led to multiple federal shutdowns in recent years.
