Truman Baseball Drops Final Two Against Mary

Truman State baseball suffered their fifth and sixth losses of the 2023 season to University of Mary, falling 11-8 and 11-7 on Sunday afternoon.

Game One:

The Bulldogs faced an early challenge, trailing 5-0 after the top of the first inning. Truman got four of those runs off a Dylan Thompson single, an Alex Wittenauer sacrifice fly, and a single from Grant Beck.

Mary scored in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 10-4 lead, but Truman fought back and scored four in the sixth. Wittenauer scored on a fielder's choice and Holden Missey hit a three-run home run.

The Marauders added their 11th run in the seventh and the Bulldogs were unable to get back into the game.

Grant Beck went 3-3 with an RBI, a run, and recorded a walk.

Tal Dean and Dylan Thompson each had two hits, with Thompson plating two.

Game Two:

Truman found themselves up 3-0 to start the second game, with Tal Dean scoring on a Dylan Thompson groundout and Kevin Donahue driving in Missey and Luke Turner on a single.

Mary hit a grand slam in the second to take a 4-3 lead before Dean hit an RBI single to tie it back up.

The Marauders scored two in the third, three in the fourth, one in fifth, and one in the sixth.

The Bulldogs added three in the seventh off a wild pitch, a Dylan Thompson single, and a fielder's choice.

Tal Dean added three more hits, going 3-5 with an RBI and two runs.

Holden Missey and Grant Beck recorded two hits each.

Kevin Donahue went 1-4 with three RBIs, and Dylan Thompson went 1-5 with two RBIs.

Truman plays at Missouri Western on Tuesday, March 7th, at 5 p.m. before returning home to play two games against Upper Iowa on Friday and two against Parkside on Saturday and Sunday.
