MU Health Care has extended its Comprehensive Stroke Center certification, a recognition that establishes the institution as a leader in stroke treatment in mid-Missouri. The certification by DNV GL Healthcare was initially granted in 2019 and has now been extended through February 2028. This achievement signifies the facility's expertise in handling severe stroke cases.
Ric Ransom, CEO of MU Health Care, commented on the certification, emphasizing the speedy and coordinated care provided for strokes. "When it comes to stroke care, every second counts—you need top-notch doctors, the right tools, and a team that can move fast and work together seamlessly,” he stated. "This certification is important. It shows how much hard work we've put into building this program and how committed we are to our mission of saving and improving lives."
The certification aligns with standards from the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, ensuring full-spectrum stroke care—from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and education. Kelly Proctor, President of DNV Healthcare USA Inc., also acknowledged this commitment, stating, “Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence. And it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”
MU Health Care continues to provide an authoritative stroke care service, important in states where certification impacts patient transport for appropriate and reimbursable care. The Stroke Program at MU Health offers critical services and has a neuro-intensive care unit and a 24/7 team of neuro-interventionalists ready to manage complex cases.
A noteworthy aspect of this certification is the need for annual reviews, unlike other advanced certifications that renew over three to five years.
