The Boone County Commission has officially adopted a senior real estate tax relief program policy following the voter approval of Proposition 1 in April. This decision comes after the Missouri General Assembly passed SB756, legislation aimed at addressing key concerns about the program.

The commission conducted four public hearings across the county to gather input and answer questions regarding the proposed policy. Boone County is now the first in Missouri to implement this senior property tax freeze following the passage of SB756.

"On the final day of the 2024 legislative session, the Missouri General Assembly truly agreed and finally passed SB756, which was filed at the request of the Missouri Association of Counties to address key concerns about the program," stated a representative from Boone County.

This initiative marks a significant step for Boone County as it sets a precedent for other counties in Missouri considering similar tax relief measures for seniors.
