Missouri men’s golf tied for sixth after first day at Colleton River Collegiate

Junior Virgilio Paz led the University of Missouri men's golf team after the first day of the Colleton River Collegiate, finishing in fifth place with a two-round score of 2-under-par (70-72). Paz overcame a slow start, recording five birdies in his last 14 holes without any bogeys during the first round and closing with a strong finish in both rounds.

Graduate student Mattias Varjun was close to achieving his best 36-hole score of the season. He finished day one in 11th place overall at 1-over-par, shooting a 73 in the opening round and improving to a 72 in the second. Varjun is aiming for his first top-20 finish this season as play continues.

Other team members contributing to Missouri's effort included Veikka Viskari (78-76), Trent Mierl (76-78), and Brock Snyder (76-80).

The Tigers are tied for sixth out of 16 teams at the tournament with a combined team score of 17-over-par (295-298).

The final round will begin Monday morning, starting from the first hole at 6:55 a.m. CT.
