The University of Missouri men's golf team advanced three places during the second round of The Hootie at Bulls Bay tournament on Monday, moving from eighth to fifth among 15 participating schools after 36 holes.
The Tigers recorded a five-under-par 283 for the second consecutive round, bringing their total to ten under par. This marks the first time since September's Canadian Collegiate Invitational that the team has posted back-to-back rounds under par.
Purdue leads the tournament at 22 under par, with Furman and Charleston tied at 16 under, and South Carolina at 12 under.
Sophomore Veikka Viskari led Missouri on Monday with a three-under-par 69, climbing nine spots on the leaderboard. He is now in 13th place overall with a score of four under par (71-69), having made four birdies and one bogey during his round.
Graduate student Mattias Varjun continued his strong play by posting his third consecutive round under par—a two-under 70—moving up six spots to 16th place at three under (71-70). Varjun finished with five birdies.
Freshman Trent Mierl and junior Virgilio Paz also placed in the top 30 after two days. Paz shot a one-under 71 on Monday, matching Varjun's five birdies for the day and finishing in 28th place at one under par. Mierl ended the day in 23rd place through two rounds at one under (69-73).
Missouri will begin the final round of competition Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. Central Time.
