The University of Missouri women's tennis team lost to Arkansas 4-1 at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville on Sunday. The Tigers' record now stands at 10-5 overall and 1-4 in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas improved to 3-8 (1-4 SEC).
Missouri was unable to secure the doubles point after losses on courts one and three. The match at court two, featuring junior Andrea Artimedi and senior Inah Canete against the No. 82 nationally ranked pair from Arkansas, was left unfinished with a tied score of 5-5.
In singles action, graduate student Lailaa Bashir and senior Inah Canete were the first to finish but both lost their matches on courts four and two, respectively. Freshman Korina Roso scored Missouri's only point by winning her match in straight sets on court six, 6-2, 6-4. Senior Mary Brumfield faced the nation's No. 55 player on court one; their match was unfinished with scores at 5-7, 6-6 (3-3). Artimedi's match on court five also went unfinished after she forced a third set.
The full results show that Missouri won only one singles match out of six and did not win any completed doubles matches.
Next, Missouri will return home to Columbia for matches against No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. CT and No. 9 Texas on Sunday, March 9 at noon CT.
