Missouri women's tennis falls to Texas A&M in home SEC matchup

The University of Missouri women's tennis team lost to No. 2 Texas A&M with a score of 4-0 at the Green Tennis Center on Saturday, March 14. The Tigers now have a record of 10-5 overall and 1-4 in SEC play, while Texas A&M improves to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

In doubles play, Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar were first to finish on court three, losing 6-3. Andrea Artimedi and Inah Canete secured a win against the No. 68 ranked pair on court two, with a score of 6-2. Mary Brumfield and Korina Roso competed against the No. 31 ranked doubles team on court one but fell short with a score of 3-6.

During singles matches, Brumfield played against the nation’s No. 3 ranked player on court one and was defeated 3-6, 1-6. Canete forced her match into a third set against the No. 15 ranked singles player but lost with scores of 1-6, 6-3, 1-6 on court two. Roso played against the No. 57 nationally ranked singles player; their match went unfinished in the third set with scores at 6-4, 4-6, 1-2.

Head Coach Bianca Turati commented on the team’s performance: "Today, we faced the second-best team in the country right now. We showed up with the proper aggressive attitude and mentality. We've been working a lot on that. And it showed today.

We had very encouraging results. Andrea and Inah won at No. 2 doubles. Korina was close to winning at #4 singles in two sets, playing a very good match.

We are excited to keep working and face the matches ahead."

Missouri will next host No. 13 Texas on Sunday, March 16 at noon CT at the Country Club of Missouri.
