The University of Missouri women’s tennis team, ranked No. 58 nationally, lost to No. 34 Ole Miss in a home match on Friday, March 28. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the visiting Rebels. Missouri’s season record now stands at 11-9 overall and 2-8 in Southeastern Conference play. Ole Miss improved to an 11-8 overall mark with a conference record of 4-6.
Missouri dropped the doubles point after losses on courts one and three. Senior Mary Brumfield and freshman Korina Roso fell to the No. 77-ranked doubles pair from Ole Miss, while graduate student Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar also lost their match. The second court matchup featuring junior Andrea Artimedi and senior Inah Canete was left unfinished with the score tied at four games each.
In singles competition, Missouri lost matches on courts one through five, though several contests extended to three sets before being decided. The Tigers’ only point came from Andrea Artimedi on court six, who won her match in a tiebreaker with scores of 6-4, 2-6, and 12-10.
Following this match, Missouri is scheduled for doubleheader action against No. 6 LSU and Southeastern Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Sunday, March 30.
