University of Missouri sophomore guard Grace Slaughter has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year, according to an announcement from the league office.
Slaughter leads the Missouri Tigers with an average of 15.5 points per game this season and has averaged 16.2 points in conference play. Academically, she has maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA throughout her collegiate career, including a perfect 4.0 GPA during the past academic year while pursuing a degree in health science.
She was recognized as a member of the 2023-24 SEC Honor Roll and has appeared on the University of Missouri Dean's List three times: fall 2023, spring 2024, and fall 2024.
A native of Grain Valley, Missouri, Slaughter is making significant contributions to program records for sophomores by ranking in the top ten across six statistical categories. Nationally, she is fourth in three-point shooting percentage at 46.6% among players averaging at least 1.5 made three-pointers per game this season. Within the SEC, she ranks fourth in free throw percentage at 86.5%.
On January 27, Slaughter scored a career-high 31 points and secured a win for Missouri against Mississippi State with a buzzer-beater.
This marks the second consecutive season that a Missouri athlete has received the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award; last year’s recipient was former point guard Mama Dembele. Slaughter and Dembele are now the only two athletes in program history to receive this recognition.
Missouri will play Mississippi State in the opening round of the SEC tournament at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Greenville, South Carolina.
