The University of Missouri wrestling program has announced the addition of graduate transfer Max Mayfield for the upcoming season. Head coach Brian Smith confirmed Mayfield's signing on April 17. Mayfield arrives from Northwestern University and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Mayfield, who is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, brings significant experience to the Tigers. Competing at 165 pounds, he is a three-time NCAA qualifier with a collegiate record of 62-41. In his last two appearances at the NCAA Championships, Mayfield advanced to the round of 16 and recorded a combined 4-4 record in those tournaments. His notable victories include wins over Nicco Ruiz (Arizona State), Caleb Fish (Michigan State), Beau Mantanona (Michigan), and Rafael Hipolito (Virginia Tech). Over his college career, he has achieved five falls, ten technical falls, and eight major decisions.

Before his collegiate career, Mayfield was a standout at Lincoln East High School in Nebraska. He was a three-time state champion and finished his senior year undefeated with a 56-0 record, closing out high school with an overall mark of 205-7. He served as team captain for three years and helped lead his team to a state title in 2018. In addition to his high school achievements, Mayfield spent fourteen years training with MWC Wrestling Academy and earned multiple Fargo Championships.

Mayfield described his decision to join Missouri: "I chose Tiger Style because I believe they have the best combination of coaches, training partners and resources to help me climb the podium in March. During my visit, the decision became clear when I got to know the coaches and teammates more.  The people in this program have created a great culture with values I align with.  I'm confident I can thrive in this environment and enjoy every step of the journey."

Coach Smith commented on what Mayfield brings to the program: "We are really excited about bringing in Max. He brings some great experience, being a three-time NCAA qualifier and having competed in the Big 10 against high-level competition. He really enjoyed our culture when he visited, and we look forward to helping him reach his goals and have him on the podium next March."
