Rep. Mark Alford, who represents Missouri’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has posted a series of statements on his official X account criticizing Democratic leadership and addressing the recent government shutdown.
On September 30, 2025, Alford wrote: "No vision. No leader. No message. This is why the Left has to create chaos to get attention. It’s time for them to stop grandstanding and start standing up for American families, troops, and businesses."
Shortly after midnight on October 1, he continued his criticism by stating: "Democrats would rather fight @POTUS and Republicans than fight for Americans."
Later that day, following the federal government shutdown at midnight, Alford attributed responsibility to Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer. He posted: "The government shut down at midnight at the hands of the Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer. A short message on the Left's desire to play political games instead of serving hardworking Americans."
Alford has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after succeeding Vicky Hartzler. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. Alford holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
