Rep. Mark Alford, who represents Missouri’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on October 14, 2025, addressing recent developments in Middle East diplomacy and ongoing government funding negotiations.
In a post published at 17:29 UTC, Alford commented on efforts to secure hostages in the Middle East, stating, "We're proud of President Trump's work to secure the release of the living hostages and build a sustainable peace in the Middle East. Hamas must abide by ALL of the terms of the deal. It's time for Hamas to release the remains of the hostages they murdered!"
Later that day, at 19:53 UTC, Alford addressed the federal government shutdown and criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. He wrote, "Day 14 of the Schumer Shutdown — America is held hostage because Chuck Schumer’s too proud to do what’s right. @HouseGOP passed a clean CR weeks ago. We needed more time to finish our @HouseAppropsGOP work. But Schumer’s stubbornness and fear of AOC shut the government down."
Continuing his criticism of Schumer and Senate Democrats at 20:31 UTC, Alford added, "Chuck Schumer’s been in Washington for nearly three decades. He knows a clean CR takes 60 votes in the Senate—requiring some Democrat support. Yet he refuses to act. All for political games & giving your money to illegal aliens. This is the #SchumerShutdown."
Alford has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after replacing Vicky Hartzler as representative for Missouri's 4th district. He was born in Baytown, Texas in 1963 and currently resides in Lake Winnebago. Alford earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
