Media and Public Information Release (Fatality Crash)
On 09/16/2022, at approximately 9:06 pm, deputies were dispatched to investigate a vehicle crash on N Wagon Trail Road near E Dash Street. Boone County Joint Communications received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle had overturned at this location.
Upon arrival, deputies located a silver Ford Explorer on its roof in the middle of Wagon Trail Road and two adult subjects believed to be occupants of the Ford at the time of the crash. One occupant, identified as 23-year-old Alexander Mears of Fayette, was seriously injured and unresponsive. Deputies and emergency medical personnel provided aid to Mears; however, they were unable to revive Mears and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second subject, an adult female, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicated Mears was driving the Ford northbound on N Wagon Trail Rd when he failed to negotiate a curve. The Ford crossed the center line, left the edge of the roadway, began overturning, and came to final rest on its top in the roadway. Mears was ejected during the crash.
