Jennifer Spiess has been recognized as the April 2024 Volunteer of the Month for her outstanding dedication to community service. As a Conservation Biology and Plant Biology Instructor with 15 years of experience, Jennifer has made a significant impact through her volunteer work.

"I am most proud to share these experiences and values with my students at Moberly Area Community College," Jennifer expresses her passion for involving her students in community projects such as Cleanup Columbia. She believes that taking action, no matter how small, can make a difference in combating various challenges. Jennifer emphasizes the importance of focusing on others to alleviate worries about uncontrollable circumstances.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Jennifer credits her parents in New Cambria, Missouri, for instilling in her the values of giving back. "I believe, and teach, that we want to leave the world better than we received it," she states. This belief is evident in Jennifer's extensive volunteer history, which includes activities like placing flags for Memorial Day, assisting with school clubs, and supporting organizations like the Salvation Army and the Food Bank.

Apart from her volunteer work, Jennifer enjoys various hobbies such as cooking, reading, baking, and gardening. She is also involved in the Columbia Mothers of Multiples Club and works as a consultant for Mary Kay. Currently, Jennifer is planning a Missouri Native Plants garden at her home, showcasing her commitment to environmental conservation.

For those inspired by Jennifer's dedication and looking to get involved, the opportunity to join her and the MACC students in Cleanup Columbia is available throughout April. Interested individuals can contact the City of Columbia Volunteer Programs for more information on how to participate.
