The City of Columbia Public Works department is actively improving Columbia’s roads, working to keep as many of them in good condition as possible.

Over the summer and continuing this fall, crews can be seen around the city resurfacing roadways or adding pavement preservation treatments to slow deterioration.

"For your safety and the safety of our workers, please drive cautiously near construction zones and follow the directions of flaggers," stated a representative from the department. "They are there to ensure traffic flows smoothly and safely during these improvements."

It is important to note that not all roads in Columbia fall under the City’s jurisdiction. Some are state roads maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), while others are city roads managed by the Columbia Public Works department.

A detailed map showing city and state road responsibilities, along with a full list of streets being maintained this year, can be found by visiting the City’s Public Street Viewer.

"Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue work keeping Columbia’s roads in top condition," added another statement from the department.

For further information or inquiries, residents can contact 573.874.CITY (2489) or use TTY (MoRelay) 711.

The City of Columbia aims to serve its community equitably through democratic, transparent, and efficient government operations. The City Manager’s Office can be reached at 701 E. Broadway, P.O. Box 6015, Columbia, MO 65205.
