Columbia has been selected to receive Love Your Block grants for neighborhood revitalization projects. The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University announced the selection, which was approved by Columbia's City Council on September 3.
The grant includes $100,000 in funding, a dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA, and technical assistance and training from civic engagement experts at the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins. Residents of Columbia will be able to apply for mini-grants to support neighborhood improvement projects through the Love Your Block program.
Love Your Block is a grant initiative established in 2009 by Bloomberg Philanthropies. It funds resident-led neighborhood revitalization projects across U.S. cities. Columbia is one of 16 newly selected cities, joining the largest cohort in the program's history.
The 2024-2026 cohort includes Allentown, Pennsylvania; Baltimore, Maryland; Charleston, South Carolina; Columbia, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Durham, North Carolina; Evanston, Illinois; Fall River, Massachusetts; Gary, Indiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; Long Beach, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Reno, Nevada; Port St. Lucie, Florida; Rapid City, South Dakota; and San Bernardino, California.
