Community members are invited to attend Columbia Fire Department’s Halloween Open House from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at Columbia Fire Station 9, located at 201 Blue Ridge Road.

The Columbia Fire Department wishes to remind citizens of some Halloween safety tips to avoid a possible tragedy on what should be a fun night.

The U.S. Fire Administration reports that between 2011-2015, decorations (not including Christmas trees) were the item first ignited in an estimated 840 reported residential structure fires per year. These fires resulted in an average of two deaths, 36 injuries and $11.4 million in direct property damage each year.

In addition to taking safety precautions, community members are encouraged to attend the annual Halloween Open House from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at Columbia Fire Station 9, located at 201 Blue Ridge Road.

The event features activities and games, opportunities to interact with firefighters, music and candy.
