Today, Congressmen Mark Alford of Missouri and Tony Gonzales of Texas introduced the Iranian Campaign Medal Act. This legislation aims to authorize the Secretary of Defense to establish a military decoration for service members who supported Operation Midnight Hammer.

"As the Congressman representing Whiteman Air Force Base, I’m proud to co-lead this bill recognizing our airmen’s contributions to Operation Midnight Hammer," stated Congressman Alford. He emphasized the roles played by various personnel in making the mission successful and described it as a testament to "President Trump’s peace through strength agenda."

Congressman Tony Gonzales reflected on his military experience and expressed pride in American servicemembers' capabilities. "During my 20 years of military service, including multiple campaigns in the Middle East, I served side by side with the finest troops in the world," he said. He highlighted that no other military could have executed such a precise strike on nuclear sites and mentioned the significance of training at San Antonio's military installations.

The Iranian Campaign Medal Act seeks to recognize troops deployed under President Trump's leadership. It is backed by several U.S. Representatives as original co-sponsors, including Sam Graves, Pat Fallon, August Pfluger, Zach Nunn, Claudia Tenney, Frank Lucas, Mike Simpson, Anna Paulina Luna, Mike Lawler, Juan Ciscomani, and Rob Bresnahan.

The background provided indicates that on June 22, 2025, President Trump authorized a precision strike at three Iranian nuclear sites with an aim to prevent Iran from becoming nuclear-armed. The operation involved 14 American pilots flying B-2 bombers from Whiteman AFB and was supported by over 125 U.S. aircraft.

The proposed act would allow for a commemorative medal honoring those who contributed to this mission or any additional operations designated by the Secretary of Defense.
