Today marks the one-year anniversary of the failed assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt released a statement reflecting on the event and announced plans to introduce a resolution commemorating this date.
Senator Schmitt stated, "One year ago today, the nation watched in horror as a deranged gunman attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump. On that day, President Trump survived only by the grace of God and our nation stood at the precipice of a catastrophic event that would’ve altered the course of history." He praised Trump's resilience during that time, noting his promise to continue working towards America's greatness.
The senator also paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, describing him as "a devoted veteran and firefighter who did not hesitate to give his life protecting his family," ensuring his bravery is remembered.
The forthcoming resolution aims to condemn violence against elected leaders and honor those affected by such events.
