Mizzou golf teams start Blessings Collegiate Invitational; Arkansas leads after first round

Mizzou’s men’s and women’s golf teams began their participation in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Monday.

On the women’s side, senior Addie Dobson led with a four-over 76, finishing the first round in 11th place. Senior Melanie Walker was close behind with a five-over 77, placing her in 15th after the opening day. The women’s team ended the day in seventh place at +23, while Arkansas held the lead after 18 holes.

For the men’s team, senior Virgilio Paz posted a two-over 74, leading his squad and tying for 11th place individually. Paz recorded four birdies throughout his round. Junior Veikka Viskari also finished among the top-20 with a four-over 76, ending the day in 20th place. The men’s team stood eighth at +18 but trailed fourth place by only five strokes. Arkansas led after round one at +5.

Combined, Mizzou's teams posted a score of +41, which placed them eighth out of ten teams overall. Arkansas led all teams with a combined score of +7.

Play continues Tuesday, with the men's team starting from the 10th tee at 9:00 a.m., and the women's team beginning from the same tee at 8:15 a.m.
