Missouri wrestling secures top-eight finish after strong showing at National Duals Invitational

Missouri Tigers wrestling advanced to the second day of the National Duals Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after finishing day one with a 2-1 record. The team, ranked No. 17 nationally, participated in three duals on Saturday and compiled a 16-14 record across individual matches, including six bonus point wins.

The Tigers opened their tournament against top-seeded Iowa but were defeated by the Hawkeyes. Following that loss, Missouri rebounded with a decisive victory over No. 22 Little Rock. In their final dual of the day, Missouri faced Michigan with a spot in the tournament’s top eight at stake. The Tigers secured their advancement by defeating Michigan 26-10.

After day one, Missouri had accumulated a total of 63 dual points while allowing 40.

Against Iowa, Mizzou fell to 2-5 all-time in the series dating back to the late 1960s. During head coach Brian Smith’s tenure, Missouri’s record versus Iowa stands at 2-3, all matches taking place during iterations of the National Duals. Notably, “Missouri has not been held scoreless in a dual since February 13, 1999,” as noted in event details; Jarrett Stoner’s win at heavyweight continued this scoring streak to 457 consecutive duals.

Facing Little Rock for only the second time ever—their previous meeting was last season—Missouri evened its record against them at one win apiece. Kade Moore earned his fourth career technical fall and Seth Mendoza recorded his first collegiate victory for Mizzou at 157 pounds by defeating Jaivon Jones.

In their match against Michigan, Missouri improved its historical record to two wins and three losses versus the Wolverines. With this victory over Michigan, Missouri is guaranteed at least $50,000 in prize money for its performance during the weekend.

Several individual performances stood out throughout Saturday: Mack Mauger registered two falls at 125 pounds; Mendoza picked up his second career win (both over ranked opponents); Cam Steed won his rematch against Beau Mantanona—whom he previously beat for All-American honors; and Aeoden Sinclair notched his first technical fall over a ranked opponent at 184 pounds.

Missouri will return Sunday morning to face Minnesota at the National Duals Invitational sponsored by Paycom. The winner will advance to wrestle for fifth place and an additional $50,000 prize pool allocation. Competition begins at 10 a.m., streamed live on FloWrestling.
