Senator Eric Schmitt posted a series of tweets on November 13, 2025, addressing the U.S. government's response to Antifa and its alleged international connections. Schmitt credited President Trump and Secretary Rubio for new efforts in dismantling what he describes as an international network.

In one tweet, Schmitt stated, "The list goes on. But for the first time, thanks to President Trump and Secretary Rubio, the U.S. government is getting serious about confronting and dismantling this network. Under U.S. law, a Foreign Terrorist Organization designation is one of the strongest tools we have." (November 13, 2025).

Schmitt also discussed specific examples of Antifa's alleged operations in American cities. He wrote, "It's no coincidence that, in Portland, the violent Antifa cells rely on the services of the Italy-based 'radical left hacking collective' Autistici/Inventati to plan, coordinate and organize their attacks: https://t.co/OGWBqROlTM" (November 13, 2025).

Additionally, he commented on events in Atlanta by posting, "All of this is critical to the operations of Antifa cells in America. It's no coincidence that, at the “Stop Cop City” riots in Atlanta, authorities found the Antifa militants they arrested during the violence were an 'international group'—traveling from France, Canada, etc. https://t.co/4v2lMVbOYa" (November 13, 2025).

Antifa has been a subject of national debate regarding its structure and methods. The group describes itself as anti-fascist and operates as a decentralized movement with no central leadership. Law enforcement agencies have noted that members often use encrypted communication platforms and occasionally receive support or inspiration from groups abroad.

The Foreign Terrorist Organization designation referenced by Schmitt is a legal tool used by the United States to target groups involved in terrorism-related activities outside U.S. borders; such designations allow for enhanced investigative powers and sanctions.
